Key dates in our history

1880’s

In 1880, Thomas Cook made a significant move that would pave the way for his future success in the transportation industry. He purchased his very first horse and cart, and established Elddis Transport. At the time of the purchase, Thomas Cook likely had little idea of the impact that this simple acquisition would have on the future of Elddis.

1942

Following the death of Thomas Cook, his legacy and business operations were carried on. One of his sons, Siddle Cook, took over part of the family business and established Siddle C Cook Ltd.

Under Siddle’s leadership, Siddle C Cook Ltd continued to grow and expand its operations.

1964

In 1964, Siddle C Cook Ltd., a transportation company founded by the Cook family, was sold to the Tayforth Group. This sale marked a significant change for the Cook family, who had been involved in the transportation industry for many years. Despite the sale, Geoffrey Cook, a member of the Cook family, remained involved in the business and continued to run it for seven years after the sale.

1971

Geoffrey Cook’s tenure came to an end when he left Tayforth Group, but his entrepreneurial spirit remained. On September 6th, 1971, he launched Elddis Transport, a new transportation company.

Elddis Transport was named after one of Cook’s grandfathers, and it began operations with just 2 trucks. Cook’s goal was to create a transportation company that was focused on customer service and reliability, and he worked tirelessly to build the company’s reputation in the industry.

1980

In 1980, Elddis Transport faced a major setback when its biggest customer, Consett Steel Works, closed down. This event forced the company to re-evaluate its business strategy and adapt to the changing market conditions. Under the leadership of Geoffrey Cook and his team, Elddis Transport decided to shift its focus to the consumer goods market.

2013

In 2013, Elddis Transport received two prestigious awards that recognized the company’s commitment to excellence and its dedication to corporate social responsibility. The first award was the Motor Transport Haulier of the Year Award, which is considered one of the most prestigious awards in the UK transportation industry.
